OPEN SKIES The room where the Avenue Hotel’s new Sky Lounge resides has been around for a while—you just had to be a guest to see it. Previously housing both a banquet room and a fitness center, the 40-story-high view of the lake was reserved for people who were focusing on food or on working off that food. But no more: Now the room is open to the public, so anyone can grab a cocktail, order one of the small plates (ceviche, crab cakes, etc.), take a seat in front of the view and just stare. You can also sit at the large communal table and mingle with other guests—but with a view like this, it might be tough to focus on others. 160 E Huron St between Michigan Ave and St. Clair St (877-283-5110).
