$51 Million In Convention Business Comes To Chicago In February

(Chicago, IL)-January 15, 2006-For the month of February, the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau (CCTB) has 15 conventions, trade shows and other meetings on record. According to the CCTB’s Acting CEO, Bill Utter, "These events are expected to attract 56,149 attendees, who will spend an estimated $51 million while in the city of Chicago.”

Following are the highlights:

8th ANNUAL 2006 CHICAGO STYLE INVITATIONAL MEET

Over 10,000 delegates will meet at Navy Pier February 10-12 for the Illinois Gymnast Institute’s 8th Annual 2006 Chicago Style Invitational Meet. It is expected to draw 10,384 and generate $7.2 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.


This competition includes over 3,500 gymnasts from 27 states, plus Canada, making it the largest artistic invitational gymnastics meet in the United States.

CHICAGO DENTAL SOCIETY’S MIDWEST MEETING

The Chicago Dental Society will hold its 141st Midwinter Meeting at McCormick Place February 23-26. It is expected to draw 32,000 delegates and generate an estimated $33 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.


The Midwest Meeting, recognized by Tradeshow Week magazine as one of the top 200 trade shows in North America, features noted speakers including television star Bob Newhart, valued exhibitors showcasing new innovations and technology in dentistry and state-of-the-art dental products and services.

WORLD SPIRIT FEDERATION’S WINDY CITY SHOWDOWN

World Spirit Federation is hosting its Windy City Showdown at Navy Pier. The event will be held February 24-26 and is expected to attract 3,000 attendees and generate $2 million in direct expenditures for the city of Chicago.


This free event features competition between the strongest cheerleaders and dancers in the nation. Contestants can win $50,000 Participation Award, free cruises and $2,000-$4,000 program awards.

PUBLIC SHOWS

Strictly Sail, the largest indoor sail show in the country, will be held February 2-5 at Navy Pier.
